Skin care

Creams and cleansing on the face are touch near the eyes and mouth that needs to be eased in step by step. Pictures make the steps known and calm before the touch. See how the support works below.

About this visual support

Facial skin care is a nice routine, but it touches one of the body's most sensitive areas. Having someone or something come near the eyes, nose and mouth easily stirs discomfort, especially if the touch is unexpected or if the product feels cold, wet or sticky. For a child with sensory sensitivity, what is meant as care can instead become a struggle.

Visual support lowers the discomfort by making each step known in advance. When the child sees a picture of what will be done, where on the face and in what order, the touch becomes predictable rather than a surprise. Knowing that first we wash, then we apply here, lets the body prepare and relax a little more before each step.

A tip: let the child do as much as possible themselves and feel the product first, so the touch happens on their own terms. Control reduces the discomfort. In the Routined app you can build the skin care as a short series of steps with pictures, so the routine becomes predictable and can be eased in at a calm pace.
