Evening preparation

The evening is made of several small steps in a row, and without a visible order something gets dropped almost every time. Pictures make the whole sequence clear so nothing is forgotten. See how the support works below.

About this visual support

The evening looks simple to an adult, but for a child it is a long chain of steps: eat, brush teeth, use the toilet, change, fetch the soft toy, read. Each link is small on its own, but together they add up, and when tiredness sets in it is easy to skip a step or get stuck entirely.

Visual support makes the whole evening clear by laying the steps out in a visible row. Instead of you reminding about one step at a time, the child can follow the pictures and see both where they are and what is left. That removes much of the nagging and gives the child a sense of being on top of the evening themselves.

A tip: let the child move or check off each picture when the step is done, so progress becomes visible and the evening gains a clear direction. Watching the queue shrink is motivating. In the Routined app you can build the whole evening sequence once and then use it every night, so the order stays the same.
