Pyjamas on the bed

Folded pyjamas in the same colour as the duvet vanish among pillows and soft toys, and stop reminding anyone of anything. The pictures below show where they belong on the bed and what time of day to put them there.

About this visual support

The whole point of pyjamas on the bed is that they announce what happens next without anyone having to say it. But a reminder nobody can see does not exist, and the evening still ends with someone calling from the hallway while the child is sitting there in day clothes.

Visual support helps in two ways. The picture fixes the placement, on top of the pillow or in the middle of the duvet, so the pyjamas get a definite spot rather than a vague one. And putting them out becomes its own moment earlier in the day, well before tiredness and resistance have set in.

One concrete move: have the child lay the pyjamas out right after their afternoon snack, and lay them flat rather than folded. Spread out, they cover half the duvet and are impossible to miss, and they are quicker to get into later. In the Routined app, laying them out can sit as an early step in the evening routine with its own reminder, instead of landing last when everyone is tired.
