About this visual support
To a child an empty basket is a goal without a clear shape, easy to start and easy to abandon halfway. A child knows the laundry should go away, but cannot tell where the job ends until every item is in its place, and the pile still looks big long after real progress has been made.
Visual support gives the ending a shape. One picture of the full basket and one of the clothes put away show what counts as finished, and a child can compare what is in front of them with the goal picture. A concrete trick is to make the last image the empty basket back in its usual spot, so the child knows exactly where it belongs when everything is done and does not have to ask whether it is over.
