Hang up pajamas

About this visual support

Chores that nobody notices are the hardest ones to remember. Pajamas on the floor cause no argument in the moment and nobody comments when they are hanging up, so the brain has no reason to prioritise them. Meanwhile the hanger might be three metres away, which on a tired morning is enough to make the whole task feel unreasonable.

Visual support helps here by making the goal itself visible. A card showing the hook with the pajamas in place gives your child something to compare the room against, and the difference between finished and not finished is obvious without anyone having to say it. Put the pictures on the inside of the wardrobe door or by the bed and they sit exactly where the task happens.

One tip that often solves the whole thing: swap the hanger for a hook at your child's own height right beside the bed, and let the picture show that specific hook. The journey becomes half a step instead of a walk. In Routined the pajamas can be their own step in the morning routine, ticked off on the way to breakfast.
