About this visual support

A doctor's visit is full of things outside the child's control: a waiting room where time stands still, a room they have never been in, an adult in a white coat and steps that can sometimes be felt. The uncertainty about what will happen is often harder than what actually happens, and it can start to gnaw long before you arrive.

Visual support makes the visit predictable by showing the steps in advance: travel there, wait, go in, get examined, go home. When the child knows the order things come in, the uncertainty shrinks, and a hard situation becomes something you can follow on a map instead of guessing your way through.

A tip: go through the pictures at home calmly the day before, and talk about what each step means without painting the worst. That small preparation makes the real visit more familiar.
