About this visual support
A visit to the zoo is a feast for the senses, but that is exactly what also makes it demanding. There is endlessly much to see, long distances to walk, sounds, smells and often a lot of people. For a child who is easily overwhelmed, a fun day can quickly tip into tiredness and stress, especially if there is no clear plan for what will happen.
Visual support gives the day a shape that makes it manageable. When the child sees a simple plan, which animals you will look at, where you will eat and when there is time to rest, the big experience gets divided into reasonable pieces. It also becomes clear that not everything has to be fitted in, and that breaks belong, which takes away some of the pressure.
A tip: decide on a couple of animals or spots you will definitely see, and show them with pictures, so the day has anchors even if everything else is open.
