Chicken droppings, sheep wool and wet soil all smell strong, cows and goats make sounds a child has never heard, and the ground shifts underfoot. On a farm this happens all at once, and for sensitive senses excitement and overload can sit right next to each other.
Going through the pictures beforehand makes the farm familiar before you even arrive. The child meets the smell of the animals and the noise from the barn in their mind first, so the real experience is not a shock but something already half known. One picture at a time lets the impressions arrive at a pace a child can keep up with.
One concrete tip: link each picture to a sense before you go. Point at the sheep and talk about how the wool feels, at the hen and how it sounds, at the mud and how it looks under the boots. Then the child knows which impressions are coming and can choose what to start with on the spot.
