The last lesson ends, but inside the head it keeps running. The visual support below shows the steps from classroom to free afternoon, giving your child time to let school go before anything new begins.

A happy child with a backpack jumping with arms raised, signifying school is over. Above the child, a school building has a red 'X' over it, and below, books and a pencil also have a red 'X'.

About this visual support

The end-of-school bell is a thin line. On one side sit desks, chalkboard and rules, on the other waits an afternoon that wants to be something completely different. For many children that line is hard to cross, because the head is still full of impressions and cannot switch mode just because a clock says so.

A visual schedule across the ending gives your child something to hold while the body slows down. The cards can show closing the book, fetching the jacket, meeting someone in the hallway and stepping outside. The steps become concrete instead of a stream of words, and tiredness has fewer hooks to catch on. One tip that often works is to place a clear pause card right after the school gate, perhaps a bench or a quiet walk, so the transition does not collide with a new task at home.

If you want to connect the end of school with the afternoon routine in one flow, the Routined app lets you build your own visual support, set timers and add a soft pause between school and home.
