A coin dropped into the piggy bank today gives nothing today. The reward sits a week or two away, and holding on to a wish that long asks for a sense of time that young children are still building. With nothing to look at, saving easily becomes just a no in the moment.

That is why it helps to make the waiting itself concrete. With visual support you can show the chain: earn or get a coin, put it in the jar, watch the jar fill and finally swap what is inside for the thing your child wants. A picture of the goal beside the jar ties the dull now to the fun later, so the giving-up gains a direction.

One concrete tip: draw or photograph the exact thing your child is saving for and place it on top, then move a marker up for each coin so the progress shows. In the Routined app you can set saving as a recurring step and tick it off each time a coin goes in, so the long wait breaks into many small yeses.
