Set and clear the table
Setting and clearing the table frames the meal with two opposite steps a child can learn to own. Pictures show what to do before and after the food. See how the support works below.

About this visual support
Setting and clearing the table are two chores that together frame a meal, one before and one after. For a child they can become a fine introduction to taking responsibility at home, but they also require a sense of order: what should come out, where should it go, and what should happen when the food is finished. Without a clear structure it easily gets half-done or skipped.
Visual support makes both steps concrete by showing them step by step. A picture of how the table should look when set, with plate, glass and cutlery, gives the child a template to follow, and a picture of the clearing shows what should happen next. It removes the guessing and lets the child carry out the task more on their own.
A tip: let the child start with their own place, their plate and glass, before taking on the whole table, so the task grows at a reasonable pace. A bounded start builds confidence. In the Routined app you can place setting and clearing as two steps around the meal, so they become an obvious part of eating together.
