Clearing the table looks simple to an adult, but for a child it is a long row of small decisions to take in the right order. What do I carry first, the glass or the plate? Do I grab everything at once or one thing at a time? Where does the dirty stuff go, and what about the cutlery? When all these questions arrive together they are hard to survey, and the child can stall before the first plate is even lifted.
Visual support loosens the knot by laying the decisions out in a visible sequence. Instead of weighing each choice in their head, the child follows a chain that is already settled: plates first, then glasses, then cutlery, wipe last. Each picture removes one decision, which frees up energy to actually do the job rather than plan it.
A concrete tip: group the pictures by what belongs together, all the plates in one, all the glasses in the next, so the child carries one kind of thing per trip instead of juggling a mix.
