Window
An open window and a closed one look different, and that is the whole point. The visual support below helps your child see when it is time to let in fresh air and when the window needs closing again.

Closed window
A closed window with a flower pot, a bush, sun and clouds

Window
A four-pane window looking out at a tree, a house and the sun

Open window
A wooden window with one pane open to blue sky and grass

Open the window
A window standing ajar with the sun and a tree outside
About this visual support
A window is one of the few things at home with two positions that are both right, depending on the time of day. In the morning it can be nice to air out the bedroom for a while. Before the family leaves the house, when it starts to rain or when the evening turns cold, it should be shut. For a child it is hard to know which position applies right now, especially when the rule is not spelled out every time.
The picture cards show both an open and a closed window. That means the same motif can be used at different points in the day: the open window in the morning routine after the bed is made, the closed one in the routine before you go out or at bedtime. Your child does not have to interpret a spoken reminder, because the picture says what to do.
A practical tip: if there is a window your child should not open alone, for example upstairs, choose a picture that clearly shows the closed position and use it only in routines where your child is allowed to handle the window. In the Routined app you can add opening and closing the window as separate steps. You can try the app for 14 days without paying.
