Diaper

A diaper change is trust from a lying position: the child is on its back, someone else handles intimate areas, and a cold wipe can arrive without warning. With the pictures beside the changing table, the child knows what is coming and in what order. The steps are right below.

About this visual support

On the changing table the child is at a disadvantage. Lying on its back, with limited view of the room, it depends entirely on the adult being calm and giving warning. A cold wipe arriving before the child has registered it is often what derails the whole routine – not the diaper itself.

The visual support hangs at eye level from lying down, beside the changing mat. You point to each picture just before doing the step: now the zipper, now the trousers, now the diaper off, now the wipe, now the new diaper. The body has time to answer before the touch arrives.

A concrete tip: warm the wipe by holding it between your palms for ten seconds before using it. Have one small object to hold so attention can land somewhere while you work – a soft toy, a book, a familiar figure.

In the Routined app you can play the diaper change as a mini routine with audio, so the same voice announces the next step every time. Try free for 14 days.
