Club Week 2

Grasping that something happens only in a week or two is hard when the future is invisible. The visual support below puts the club on a calendar the child can point to and count days toward, so the wait takes a shape.

About this visual support

The future has no surface. A child can hear that the club comes back in week two and still have nowhere in their head to put that information. Is it tomorrow? After sleeping? Many times? Without a timeline to hang the event on, the answer becomes a feeling of uncertainty, which often shows up as repeated questions about when it is time.

This is where visual support makes an abstract future graspable. When the weeks sit as boxes and the club is marked with a picture in the right box, the event gets a place the child can see and touch. The distance to it becomes concrete, a stretch of days to count down, instead of a vague later that might as well be never.

A concrete tip: let the child move a marker or cross off a box for each day that passes, so the wait becomes a visible movement toward the goal rather than standing still. That cuts the need to ask, because the answer is on the wall. In the Routined app you can add recurring activities and let the child follow how many days are left until the next time.
