Prepare breakfast

Preparing breakfast is several steps in a row, and without support one is easily lost in the morning tiredness. Pictures show the whole sequence so the child can help out themselves. See how the support works below.

About this visual support

Preparing breakfast looks simple, but it consists of several steps that have to happen in the right order: fetch a bowl and glass, pour cereal, get the milk, maybe make a sandwich. In the morning, with tiredness and time pressure, it is easy to forget a step or get stuck on where to begin, especially for a child who wants to be part of doing it themselves.

Visual support makes the whole sequence clear. When the steps are shown in order, the child can follow them one at a time and do a larger part on their own, without you having to stand by and remind about each step. That gives the child a sense of managing something themselves, and makes the morning a little calmer for you both.

A tip: start with a couple of simple steps the child can manage entirely alone, for example pouring cereal, and let the picture show the way. Succeeding at one part builds the drive to do more. In the Routined app you can place breakfast preparation as a sequence of small steps, so the child can check them off and gradually take over more of the morning.
