About this visual support
A lab makes unusual demands. You have to follow an instruction exactly, keep track of where you are in it, handle materials you have never used before and at the same time understand a concept that cannot be seen. If a step is missed it does not show immediately but only when the result comes out wrong, and then it is hard to go back and find where it went astray.
Visual support makes the sequence checkable. A picture row of the steps lets the pupil tick off where they are instead of holding the whole order in their head while their hands are busy. It also means anyone who loses the thread can find it again without asking.
A concrete tip is to photograph each step with a phone while you do it. The pictures then become the basis for the conclusion, which otherwise has to be written from memory. In Routined lab days can sit as their own routine in the week, and the app can be tried for fourteen days at no cost.
