Tricky at preschool
When something goes wrong at preschool it is rarely the event itself that grows biggest, but the fact that it cannot be told. The words do not arrive in time, so the body takes over. The pictures below offer another way to show what happened.

The gap between what a child feels and what they can say is widest exactly when it matters most. A conflict at the building blocks, a rule that changed, someone who took something: all of it needs words in an order that is hard to produce while the feeling is still strong. What shows on the outside becomes a shove or a shout, and the cause of it shows not at all.
Visual support offers a route around speech. Pictures of common situations let the child point instead of formulate, and the adult is spared guessing through a series of questions. For a child with a language disorder or later language development that is often the difference between being understood and being told off.
