Take things to your room

#room#carry#tidy

Books on the sofa, the PE bag in the hallway and toys on the kitchen floor rarely end up in the bedroom by themselves. Pictures make it clear what to carry and where. You will find the visual support below.

About this visual support

In most homes, children's things gather in the shared rooms during the day. That is natural, but in the evening they need to go back. The request to take your stuff to your room is vague for a child, though: which stuff, all at once, and where does it go afterwards? Without answers to those questions, it is easy to just move the pile a few metres or start playing with the first thing you find.

The visual support makes the task concrete. The pictures show a boy carrying a box through a door, a boy carrying books into the room and one carrying a box to the room. Build a short sequence: gather your things in a basket, carry the basket to your room, put each item in its place and bring the empty basket back. The basket makes it possible to carry everything in one go.

A practical tip is to do it at a fixed time, such as before dinner, and to have one basket per child in the living room. Then it is clear whose things are whose. If you want to add this small task to the evening routine with a picture and a reminder, you can try Routined free for 14 days.
