From a child's side, the difference between bonus and burden is the frame around the job. The same thing, carrying out the cardboard or watering the plants, can be a game or an extra duty depending on how it arrives. Left loose in a day that is already full, it turns into the second one almost every time.
A card of its own with a star marks the mission as something other than the usual routine. It sits beside the list rather than on top of it, and your child can see straight away that this is one single thing, not the start of a new row of jobs. Give the mission a time frame you say out loud before you start, something like the length of one song. Short and bounded is what lets an extra mission feel like a chance to show what you can do.
