Put on shoes and backpack

The morning can be almost finished and still stop in the hall. The shoes are still off, the backpack hangs on the hook, and the distance between nearly ready and actually leaving feels unexpectedly long. The pictures below show the last steps.

About this visual support

The last steps before the door are the hardest, even though they are the smallest. Everything else is done, the time pressure is at its peak, and two more things have to happen in the right order in a place where several people often stand at once. What looks like defiance is usually just a stall in the sequence: everything is ready except one detail, and that detail is invisible until somebody points it out.

Visual support makes the end of the morning as clear as the start. Two pictures, shoes and backpack, are enough to give the task a visible finish. A row on the inside of the front door works better than a reminder from the kitchen, because the information is needed where the body is.

A concrete tip is to put the backpack beside the shoes the night before. When both things are in the same place the last steps become one instead of two. In Routined the morning routine can end with exactly these steps, and the app can be tried for fourteen days at no cost.
