Get water bottle
Thirst often shows up only when it is already too late, and thinking of the bottle before leaving takes a foresight that is not always there in the moment. The pictures below become a visible reminder right where it is needed.

About this visual support
The bottle is still on the counter, and only halfway to football does the thirst arrive. Packing the water before leaving is about foresight: you have to think of a need that is not yet felt, which is exactly what is hard when the door beckons and your mind is already on the way out.
Visual support moves the reminder from the head to the wall. A picture of the bottle in the leaving routine, ideally near the front door or on the bag, catches the thought at the right moment, before you have stepped out. The child does not have to remember on their own and can check off the bottle the same way as shoes and jacket, as an obvious part of leaving home.
One concrete tip: place the bottle picture last in the leaving routine, right next to the shoes, since that is where the final check feeling sits before the door opens. In Routined you can add the bottle as its own step in the leaving-home routine and try it for fourteen days at no cost.
