Wash your feet

Water, soap and reaching down to the feet can feel messy and demand balance and patience at once. Pictures make the steps clear so the child can do more themselves. See how the support works below.

About this visual support

Washing your feet sounds simple, but it holds several small challenges at once. You have to reach down to the feet, keep your balance, handle water and soap without it getting too messy, and still be thorough enough for it to come clean. For a child still practising fine motor skills and balance, that combination can make a small task quite big.

Visual support splits the step into clear stages: wet the feet, soap up, rub, rinse, dry. When the child sees the order, it becomes easier to do more on their own, without getting stuck on what happens next. The pictures also mean nothing important is skipped, like actually rinsing off the soap or drying between the toes.

A tip: let the child sit down while washing their feet, so balance does not take all the attention and the hands are free. A stable position makes the step easier. In the Routined app you can build the foot washing as a short picture series, so the child can follow the steps and gradually handle it more independently.
