Receiving guests is social work even for a child who looks forward to the visit. You have to greet at the right moment, answer questions about school, share your things and at the same time adjust to the living room no longer being yours. For a child who needs more time to switch between states, all of it arrives at once, in the doorway.
Visual support helps by turning the visit into a sequence. One picture for who is coming, one for the greeting, one for what you will do and one for a break means the course of events is known before it starts. Having the break as a picture makes it permitted and stops it from becoming an interruption.
