Play at Playground

The playground asks the body to cooperate: swing, climb and balance, and judge what is just hard enough today. The pictures below show the equipment so the child can choose one challenge at a time.

About this visual support

Every piece of equipment at the playground asks the body its own question. The swing wants you to hold your balance and dare to let go a little, the climbing frame wants you to trust your grip, the slide wants you to take the speed down. Judging for yourself what is just hard enough today is not easy, and a challenge that feels too big can make a child rather stand to one side.

Visual support makes the choice manageable. When the equipment sits on pictures, the child can pick one at a time instead of facing the whole playground as a single big test. Seeing the swing as its own step makes it easier to try, and the next piece can wait until the courage is there.

One concrete tip is to let the child rank the pictures by what feels easy and hard, and start with the one that feels safest. Confidence then builds from the inside. In the Routined app you can gather the playground equipment as pictures and let the child tick off each thing it has dared to try.
