Turn off the alarm

The alarm cuts straight through sleep, and in the first seconds the fingers are both clumsy and confused. The steps below calmly show where the button is and how your child can silence the sound before the brain has woken up.

A girl presses the button on top of a ringing blue alarm clock to turn off the sound.

About this visual support

The sound tears through the dark and the body flinches before the eyes are even open. In those first seconds it is hard to know where the clock is, which button matters and which way to press.

That is why it helps when the hand already knows the way. With the steps for silencing the alarm laid out as pictures, a child can practice while rested and calm instead of in the middle of the confusion: grab the clock, find the big button, press it and set it back down. The next morning the movement sits closer in memory, and the sound doesn't have to cut for as long.

One concrete trick is to always keep the clock in exactly the same spot, ideally an arm's length away, so the hand can find it half-asleep. If the clock has several buttons, a small sticker on the right one helps the finger land on it even in the half-dark. With Routined you can place turning off the sound first in the morning routine, making it the very first small step before the rest of the morning gets going.
