The particular thing about a school photo is that the task is to express a feeling you do not have. A smile on command is hard for most people, and it does not get easier when a stranger holds the camera, the queue behind is long and the result will sit in a folder for years. Many children come home from photo day more tired than from an ordinary school day, without being able to explain why.
