Bedtime stories
The story signals that the day is over, but only when the same calm order returns night after night. A picture of the reading moment makes that signal clear and helps a child sense that now we wind down. The steps are just below.

About this visual support
The evening story is more than a tale. It is the body's signal that activities are ending and sleep is drawing near. For that signal to land, it needs to stay the same: same moment, same place, same calm pace, so the child knows what is coming without having to negotiate it.
Visual support strengthens the signal. When the reading moment has its own picture in the evening sequence, the story becomes a clear step between brushing teeth and lights out, not something that can stretch on endlessly. The child sees that after the story comes sleep, and that predictability makes it easier to relax rather than resist.
A concrete tip: decide the number of stories in advance and show it with pictures, for example two books in a row. Then the end is visible, and the familiar plea for one more turns into something you have already agreed on. In the Routined app the story moment can be placed last in the evening routine, together with the steps that lead up to the night.
