Take the bag
Shoes are on, the coat is zipped, and right then one more thing has to be remembered. The bag is rarely where it should be either. The pictures below turn that last second in the hallway into a step you can actually see.

The bag is almost never forgotten because it matters little. It gets forgotten because it sits last in the chain, at the moment when the clock is ticking, someone is shouting from the hall and the mind has already left for the bus. Attention is at its thinnest right then, and whatever is not visible does not exist. That the bag ended up on a kitchen chair or under the coats makes it harder still.
One picture solves two problems at once. It reminds the child of the step itself, and it can show where the bag belongs. Put the card at eye level right by the door, not inside the bedroom, so the signal lands in the right place in the room and the right second in time. Then choose a single fixed spot for the bag, the same hook every day, and let the picture show that exact hook. Anything predictable in the room does not have to be held in memory.
