Eat breakfast

In the morning the body is often not hungry yet, and sitting down to eat can feel strange. The visual support below shows breakfast as a clear step in waking up, so your child knows the meal belongs to the morning even without a rumbling stomach.

A girl eats a bite from a fork with a bowl of cereal, a banana, and a glass of juice on the table.

About this visual support

Hunger does not always arrive on cue. Many children wake without feeling like eating, and sitting down at the table then has less to do with appetite and more to do with understanding that breakfast simply belongs to the morning. Without that link the meal easily becomes something to skip or stretch out until the bus leaves.

When breakfast appears as its own picture in the morning order, it turns into one step among others rather than a negotiation. Your child sees that after getting dressed comes food, and then teeth – a sequence they can rely on. That removes some of the resistance that shows up when everything is left hanging.

One concrete tip: let the picture show exactly what is on the table, for example cereal and a clear cup, so your child knows what is waiting before sitting down. Keep the same breakfast picture for a few days in a row so it becomes familiar. In the Routined app you can place breakfast in its spot in the morning routine and let your child follow the steps right up to the last bite.
