On a trail the surface changes constantly, and the decisions happen in the body before the head can formulate them. That is why mountain biking is both fun and tiring in a different way from riding on tarmac. The pictures below cover the preparation that makes the ride possible.

About this visual support

Mountain biking demands balance, vision and reaction at the same time. The ground keeps issuing new information: a root, a rock, a hole filled with leaves. The body often reacts before the mind has formulated what is happening, which makes a ride in the forest feel like more work than a considerably longer ride on the road. Tiredness afterwards is therefore rarely about fitness.

Visual support helps with everything that can be decided in advance. Helmet, gloves, water, tools and a clear turning point mean attention can stay on the trail instead of on questions about equipment. A picture of where the ride turns around also makes the distance predictable.

A concrete tip is to plan a break after the first kilometre rather than waiting until someone is tired. An early planned break leaves more energy for the rest. In Routined the ride can sit as a routine with packing and a time, and the app can be tried for fourteen days at no cost.
