Swedish lessons cover many kinds of work: reading aloud, writing your own texts, practising spelling and learning new words. A clear picture on the schedule shows when it is time, and the pictures below are ready to use.

About this visual support

A school timetable made only of text asks a child to read before knowing what comes next. For a child who does not read fluently yet, or who needs a little longer to switch between subjects, that is an unnecessary hurdle. The flag is quick to recognise and says straight away that the next lesson is Swedish, whether it is a first language or a new one.

The subject also shifts a lot between activities. One day it is reading aloud, another a writing task or the word of the week. When the Swedish picture is fixed on the schedule, you can add a smaller picture for what is planned that particular day, so your child knows both the subject and the kind of work ahead. That cuts down on surprises and makes it easier to get started when the lesson begins.

A practical tip: keep the flag in the same place as the other subjects, but change the picture under it each week. Your child quickly learns to look there to see what is coming. If there is Swedish homework, the same picture can come home for the afternoon homework session. If you want the school week gathered with pictures on your phone, you can add it in Routined and try the app for 14 days at no cost.
