Brush teeth and take a vitamin

#brushing teeth#vitamin#toothpaste#morning routine

A vitamin is easy to forget when the jar lives in a cupboard far from the rest of the morning. Linking it to brushing teeth gives your child a clear cue. The visual support below shows both steps together, in whatever order you choose.

About this visual support

The small things that need doing every day are often the first to slip. A vitamin takes a few seconds, but precisely because it is so quick there is no natural place for it in the morning. Brushing teeth, on the other hand, happens every day, in the same spot and at roughly the same time. Attaching the vitamin to it is a simple way to let an old habit carry a new one. Many families do this with vitamin D during the darker months of the year.

The visual support shows a child brushing their teeth while holding the vitamin jar in the other hand. It does not mean both things happen at once, only that they belong together. Decide for yourselves whether the vitamin comes before or after brushing. Sugary chewable vitamins can be good to take first so the teeth are clean afterwards, but ask your dentist if you are unsure.

In practice, put the jar next to the toothbrush cup, out of reach of younger siblings if needed. An adult can hand over one tablet at a time until the routine is settled. In the Routined app you can add the step to the morning routine so your child sees it in the right order and can tick it off independently. You can try the app for 14 days before you start paying.
